All College Students Really Don’t Just Watch TV Online or Steal Content

Every week there seems to be something written about how college students and other young people consume media.   While no one can universally say what all students do, here is a small look at how this upcoming junior at the University of Maryland consumes media for school and fun.

U.S. Broadband: Continually Improving

There have been some critical comments recently on the state of U.S. broadband. Some have claimed that there has been little improvement in broadband speeds over the past several years; others question whether there’s a path to next generation capabilities.

Work Hard, Play Hard: Cable in the Classroom Invests in STEM Education with ‘Coaster Crafter’

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education is no game in today’s middle and high schools. As stated in a recent U.S. News article, “For the United States to remain the global innovation leader, we must make the most of all of the potential STEM talent this country has to offer.” However, according to an ASQ survey, today’s young people seem reluctant to pursue STEM careers and education programs.  The ASQ study also notes 51 percent of students say they “spend more time after school on the computer, browsing the Internet or playing games, than on schoolwork, such as studying and reading.” To help bridge that gap, Cable in the Classroom (CIC) has harnessed broadband’s learning potential to create an online game aimed at middle school and older students called Coaster Crafter:  Build.
