Privacy Policy

Welcome to CableTechTalk.com, the blog of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association. We hope you enjoy your visit. NCTA knows your right to privacy is important. You do not have to identify yourself or divulge personal information unless you choose to give us your personal information. 

Should you choose to share your personal information, we would like you to know exactly how that information is used by us to provide a better user experience, and the steps we take to protect your information. This privacy policy has been created to answer any questions you may have regarding the NCTA’s data collection and protection policies.

What information is being collected?

  • The only personal information collected is information you give us: We ask that anyone posting comments on CableTechTalk.com provide us with a valid e-mail address so we can reduce the amount of spam on the site.  You do not need to register to read posts on the blog, but we do request registration to comment.  The only information collected is your preferred name and e-mail address.
  • How we use log files to better serve you: We use log files to assess the aggregate level of traffic to CableTechTalk.com including what pages people are visiting, and to diagnose any potential problems with the Web site. This log file does contain an “Internet Protocol” or IP address that gives us insight on the general geographic area that visitors are coming from but not information on a specific individual. We do not use log files to track a particular individual’s use of the site. All users remain anonymous unless they choose to give us personally identifiable information.
  • We ask that children under 18 do not submit their information: In accordance with the Federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) CableTechTalk.com does not knowingly collect information from children. In accordance with the Federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we will never knowingly collect personal identifiable information from persons thirteen years old or younger.

How is the information used?

  • We personalize your comments, the site and e-mail communications. When you offer your personal information and/or choose to comment on the blog, we use your information to recognize you in comments, and to personalize Web pages and emails from us to you.
  • We will not sell your personal information. Under no circumstances will NCTA sell your information to third parties or any commercial entities.
  • We may contact you with information about ongoing legislative or regulatory actions, or to make you aware of like-minded organizations. NCTA may contact you with information related to telecommunications legislation or regulation.  We may occasionally contact you with information related to organizations who are also engaged in discussions of, or activities related to, telecommunications policy.

Can I change my information or opt out of NCTA e-mails?

  • Use your password to edit your personal information: When you register with CableTechTalk.com you will be asked to provide a password.  You can change your password or have it resent to your email account at any time. This password can be used to edit your personal information at any time.
  • How to unsubscribe from our email list: While we are sure you will find information we provide via e-mail useful, we understand the desire to keep the amount of e-mail you receive manageable.  We will send e-mail only when we have something meaningful to say.  When registering with CableTechTalk.com, please know that you are opting to receive these emails by providing your email address.

    All signups for email communications and other features of our Web site are voluntary. We give you the opportunity to opt-in and we give you the power to opt-out of email communications. Should you wish to opt-out, an unsubscribe link is included in every e-mail. If your link is not working properly, or you wish to communicate your desire to opt-out directly to us:

What terms cover the use of this blog?

  • Appropriate Uses. CableTechTalk.com (“the blog”) is provided by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (“NCTA”) for individual use only, for the discussion of telecommunications policy and related topics of interest. The blog shall not be used for any other purpose, be it personal, commercial, or otherwise. You agree that all submitted postings will be made in accordance with all applicable laws, federal, state and local.

    Comments should be kept to the topic of the original post and should be constructive and respectful. Offensive, harmful, obscene, indecent, illegal, abusive comments or comments otherwise contrary to these Terms of Usage will not be tolerated and will be moderated or removed.
     

  • Postings. NCTA is in no way responsible for the content of any comments or questions posted by individuals utilizing the blog. You are solely responsible for the content of any material you submit for posting on, or in any way make available on or through, the blog. NCTA retains the right to review and remove any content submitted for posting to the blog that the Association, in its sole discretion, deems to be inappropriate, offensive, harmful, obscene, indecent, or illegal, or otherwise contrary to these Terms of Usage.
     
  • Copyright. No user may post to, or provide through, the blog any copyrighted material or content in any manner that violates the intellectual property rights of another.
     
  • Subsequent Use. By posting any content to the blog, you grant to NCTA an unrestricted license to use, copy, perform, display, and/or distribute that content, to prepare derivative works of that content, and to incorporate that content into other works. Additionally, you grant to NCTA the right to sublicense any of the foregoing.
     
  • Termination. NCTA reserves the right to terminate your use of the blog for any reason.
     
  • Liability. Although NCTA will attempt to remove postings the contents of which are not in accordance with these Terms of Usage, you expressly waive your right to any damages in any way related to exposure to content posted on the blog by any party other than NCTA. NCTA will, under no circumstances, be responsible for any loss, damages, or other injuries resulting from anyone’s use of the blog.
     
  • Modifications. The above Terms of Usage may be modified at any time, without prior notice. Such modifications will be effective upon posting by NCTA to this website.
     
  • Use of the blog is also subject to the site’s privacy policy outlined above.
     
  • If any provision of these terms are held to be invalid, the remainder of this Agreement shall continue in full force and effect.
