People have written that TAs are unreliable. I do not dispute that.

I wonder if another reason TAs fail are because of periodic update cable companies push down the line without warning or choice.

When I had a cable box hooked up to my TiVO, and the cable company would force an update, it would shut the cable box off, and they would not turn it back on, even though it's my understanding they new they were turning your box off, and had the ability to turn it back on.

Why?

So, when you called you to complain, they would sell you on the cable company's DVR.

I reported this to the the Public Service Commission as a "denial of service" since I should not have to be home to babysit my cable box, but got nowhere.

However, despite paying my cable bill every month, I was being denied what I was paying for if the cable company shut off the cable box connected to my TiVO when I was away on vacation or on business. So, I would come home, and try to watch some recordings of the service I had paid for, only to discover my TiVO had recorded nothing but a black screen because the cable company turned off my cable box for another update.

Finally, I discovered a way to defeat that from ever happening again (a setting).

But now, I am reliving that nightmare with my TA and Premiere.

I suspect the updates are the cause, and this time, I can't figure out a way to get into the settings in the TA, to try to duplicate my previous fix.

The TA diag menu in the TiVO does not let yopu changes, just view status.

I agree out with TAs.

I have 6 HD Tivo's each with a sdv tuning adapter connected to Charter. Anyone who claims that these adapters work has not used them. They all fail, and fail Daily! It is very frustrating to miss recording a show, ESP on a premium channel, due to a sdv failure. Believe me, they are junk and the FCC should make the industry fix this mess!

The common idea is that you can use to establish a connection between the NFC, and then do an automatic transfer of the actual data transfer protocol

The usual idea is that you would use NFC to set up the link between the two devices and then do an automatic hand over to a different protocol for doing the actual transfer of data – eg Bluetooth, iphone 5

I have a TiVo and Bright House West Florida. Although I didn't appreciate another electronics box in my home, I reluctantly accepted that the tuning adapter has become a part of my television setup. Over the 12 months, the tuning adapter has been replaced two times. I'm hoping the third is the charm. Last month, Bright House started charging $3.80/month for a device that I never wanted in the first place.

The tuning adapter was a good short term solution to deploy SDV. There has to be a better solution. It seems to me that the tuning adapter and CableCARD functionality could be integrated into a single solution. The FCC needs to take action and address this issue.
